    Green jobs hiring rises as companies eye sustainable growth

    India Inc has stepped up hiring in line with the government’s thrust on fast-tracking green growth, with companies such as Vedanta Group, Schneider Electric, and Tata Steel scouting for talent for profiles in sustainability, energy, waste management, green infrastructure, and other environmental and sustainability-related fields. Demand for these profiles has surged 80-100% compared to that last year, according to experts.

    However, the talent pool is sparse as most of these profiles are new, human resources (HR) heads and executives at recruitment and staffing firms, including Randstad, Manpower, TeamLease, and found it (formerly Monster), told ET.

    This is partly because green jobs require specialized skill sets that come from industrial exposure and work experience and there are not enough training and educational opportunities available to develop these skills,” said Madhu Srivastava, chief human resources officer (CHRO), Vedanta Limited.     The demand for green jobs has increased 80-85% year-on-year at Randstad India. “Metropolitan cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru have already exhibited a substantial increase in green job postings,” said Sanjay Shetty, director, of professional search and selection, and strategic accounts, at Randstad India.
